For hotel bed linen, thread count matters less than the yarn, weave and finishing. A genuine single-ply 300 TC pure-cotton sheet with 60s × 60s compact yarn, properly mercerised and bio-washed, outlasts and outperforms many "600 TC" sheets made with multi-ply yarn.
What thread count really measures
Thread count is the number of threads in one square inch of fabric. Some sellers inflate it by counting each strand of a multi-ply yarn separately — so a "600 TC" sheet can really be a 300 TC sheet. That is why the number alone is not enough.
